Kay Lim Photography bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

This blog is a photo journal of what is happening in my life professionally and personally. I have the most fabulous job in the world, documenting love and beauty. 150 years from now we will all be gone, but our photos will remain. I strive to not only create great pictures, but pictures that are heirloom worthy. After we meet, this is where I showcase you to the world. Be sure to bookmark this and check back for updates.

The Perfect Pair

Numbed frost bitten hands…..it hurts. I though my fingers would fall off a few weeks ago photographing in the cold. I had on these gloves where all the fingers are half chopped off so I can feel the buttons on my camera. It’s like a double edge sword though. On the one hand I can feel the buttons and dial quickly, but on the other hand my fingers are freezing. I’ve been in search for the perfect glove since and I think I found it in these:

It is made by Etre Touchy and manufactured in the UK. It’s a bit pricey for a pair of glove but I go for quality.

Here’s what I like about it:
It’s functional. Only the index and thumb is open; exactly the two fingers I need exposed.
Good material. The wool feels soft and keeps my hands warm.
Stylish. These come in four different colors.

Photographers or gadget addicts living in the cold….get this glove. Your fingers will thank you for it.

Happy Chinese New Year!

I always told my friends I love being Asian of mix culture. I get to celebrate New Year three times a year.

There’s the actual New Year on January 1st.
There’s the Chinese New Year in February.
There’s the Cambodian New Year in April.

For Cambodian New Year we used to go to temple but no one takes the time to go to there anymore. The atmosphere is really different here in America then back home in Cambodia. When people celebrate Cambodian New Year in Cambodia, they really celebrate it. It’s a really happy, colorful event. Chinese New Year too. The best part was the red envelope. Sadly, those days are gone. Since I’m older now and working full time, no more red envelopes for me :(

Every year my mom makes noodles in these king size plates. They are so gooood. Best wishes in the Year of the Tiger to all!

MACRO

I’ve been going crazy with my macro lens lately. Mainly because I never had one : P

It’s harder to photograph with a macro lens then with any other lens because the plane of focus is so narrow. And being that close to an object you really have to stop down to get good depth of field but by doing that you lose a lot of light. I much prefer shooting people though for the interaction. Not literally shoot people but you get what I mean. Enjoy!
