A few weeks ago the Lim family had a gathering at the Preah Buddha Rangsey Temple at South Philly for prayers for my grandpa who had passed away many years ago. It was nice to see most of my family members like aunts, uncles and cousins because they all live out of state. We generally only see each other when there’s a big event like weddings, funerals or my grandma’s birthday.
I love that Philadelphia has this type of temple that helps foster a sense of community for the Khmer people. The Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia (CAGP) is another great organization that is the pioneer for offering programs and services to Cambodians in need.
The weather was hot and humid day. Everyone was practically drowning in their own sweat until the water bathing starts. All of the children (us) gathered to pay respect in front of my grandma as she forgives us for all of the sins we’ve done. The monks then pour rose petal water as an act of cleansing the soul.
